The Vienna Convention on the Control and Marking of Articles of Precious Metals will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in Larnaca (Cyprus) on 9-10 October 2025. The event will be hosted by the Cyprus Assay Office (CAO), which will celebrate its 30th Anniversary this year.
The Convention's anniversary will be an occasion to promote, highlight and reflect on the Convention’s contribution to the international trade of precious metals articles since the entry into force of the Convention on 27 June 1975. It will also be a unique opportunity to meet and network as well as strengthen the international network of precious metals laboratories.
To mark the two anniversaries, a joint official ceremony will be organised on 9 October 2025, which will be followed by a Standing Committee meeting and an official dinner hosted by CAO.
On 10 October 2025, the Standing Committee's Technical Programme (TP) will take place. The TP is an annual event consisting of presentations on comtemporary issues related to precious metals control.
A logo for the 50th anniversary celebrations (see above) has been selected following a design competition, which aimed at creating a 'distinctive, memorable, and versatile logo to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Hallmarking Convention'. The winner of the competition is Eda Obermanns, Digital Communication & Marketing Lead at the Edinburgh Assay Office.
